July 2, 2020 COVID19 Update

Dear Norwalk-La Mirada Families,
I sincerely hope that you and your loved ones are doing well. As your new Superintendent, I am committed to communicating regularly about our return-to-school plans for the 2020-21 school year. As you know, the situation we face is ever-evolving as COVID-19 cases in the Los Angeles area have increased recently and the Governor has for the second time closed certain sectors of society. In addition, we are still awaiting the Los County Department of Public Health guidance/directives for reopening schools. Click the article to continue reading...

Superintendent Message to the Community

Dear NLMUSD Community,

The past few days have been very difficult for communities across the nation. The tragic death of George Floyd and the events that followed have caused us to reflect on our roles as educators for equity, tolerance, and belonging.

At NLMUSD, our schools are places where we do more than educate students. Our schools foster a community of acceptance, empathy and kindness for others. We condemn acts of hate and violence and we stand in solidarity with NLMUSD African American students and staff. We will continue to work together and embrace our responsibility to create more inclusive and socially just environments for staff, students, and parents.

Our students, more than ever, need to feel safe and be heard. Please continue to listen, reassure, and affirm them. They give us hope for a better future.

We are the Norwalk La Mirada Unified School District Family, and we stand together. Let’s be mindful of the power of our actions to change the course of history for the betterment of all people.

Sincerely,

Hasmik Danielian, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Communication on Grading - COVID19

Dear NLMUSD Community,
As a reminder, all our schools will remain closed through the end of the 2019-2020 school year. This decision is in alignment with all public school districts in Los Angeles County.
Considering this pandemic and the limitations associated with distance learning, after consultation with our principals, teachers’ union, instructional leads, and district administration, we have decided to transition to a temporary grading policy for the second semester of 2019-2020. Please click on this article to read the full statement from Dr. Hasmik Danielian, Superintendent.

Schoology Connection Issue Trouble-Shooting

We apologize when you have difficulty connecting with Schoology. Schoology has been experiencing lots of performance issues due to the high volume of staff and students connecting throughout the District and the nation. This demand is heaviest at the beginning of the day 8:00 am - 9:00 am.

When this occurs:
1. Turn off the device
2. Your student can work on iReady for Language Arts or Math, complete a PE fitness activity or read a book for 20-30 minutes.
3. Turn the device back on and try logging in again.

Our teachers are being flexible as they know our students are experiencing these issues. We thank you for your partnership in supporting our students' continued learning during this time!

Clever & iReady App log-in instructions are in our Students dropdown menu
