Hutchinson Middle School

Welcome to Hutchinson Middle School!  The focus at Hutchinson and in Room 64 is student achievement.

Mrs. JoAnne Fleming Location: Room 64

Subjects Taught: Math 6

Grade Level: 6th Grade

Curriculum:  The goal of this course is to provide a comprehensive course focusing on Sixth Grade Common Core Math Standards.  Topics will include:  Ratios and Proportional Relationships, The Number System, Expressions and Equations, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.

Educational Materials:  Students are expected to have the following materials in class everyday:

Pen and Pencil                                          Big Ideas Math Workbook                     Calendar Planner

Composition Notebook                            iPad and earbuds

Homework Policy: Homework is assigned every Monday and due on Friday.  Homework assignments are designed to reinforce the basic skills needed for 6th grade math.  Homework is acceptable when all problems have been attempted and all work is shown.  Students are to access homework every Monday on Schoology.  They will upload it to a Notability file and complete it in that file.  I check and record homework weekly.  Homework is due every Friday after we correct it in class.  Students will upload their finished homework assignment on Friday in class after correcting.   In case of a verified absence, it is the responsibility of the student to upload the homework on Friday and I will correct it.

Quizzes/Tests/Projects:  Two 100 points tests will be given per chapter.  Quizzes will be given as needed for test practice.  Students with an excused absence on a test/quiz day should expect to take the test/quiz on the day they return to school.  If students score below 70% for their chapter tests they can take the test and fix the problems that are incorrect and turn it in for an earned C.

General Math Procedures:

  1. Students are to show ALL work to receive credit.
  2. No late work will be accepted.
  3. Bring math workbook, composition/spiral notebook, pencil, colored pen, charged iPad, and calendar planner to class each day.
  4. Extra help is provided before and after school at Homework Club or Math Tutoring.  Check school website for days and times.

Textbook:  A link to an online copy of the BIG IDEAS MATH COURSE 1 textbook can be found on the Hutchinson website “Hutchinsonhawks.org.”  Hard cover textbook may be left at home as long as student brings charged iPad to class with them.  The BIG IDEAS MATH workbook will need to be brought to school daily.

Grading Policy:  Students will be graded on all assignments, which include Classroom and Homework Assignments, Quizzes, Tests, and Projects.  The grading scale is as follows:

90-100%= A                80-89% =B                  70-79% = C                 60-69% =D                 0-59% = F

Schoology Trouble-Shooting Tips

  1. Internet connection and Schoology log-in directions are on our Hutchinson website under the Student dropdown tab.
  2. Remember to log out of personal Google accounts in order to log in to NLMUSD. You should not be switching back and forth from your own Google platform to NLMUSD.
  3. If the connection is slow, you need to be patient and try again after a few minutes.  Refreshing over and over will only make the connection slower.
