Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year! I am your child’s 7thor 8th Grade Language Arts. I look forward to an exciting and productive year. I have been an educator since 1995 and I have been employed by Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District since 2004.  I have served as an Instructional Coach and I have taught a variety of grade levels including fifth through eleventh.

As a teacher, I believe that all students can learn and it is my job to ensure that all students are afforded multiple opportunities to learn and grow as students and as human beings.

My mission as an educator is to:

  • Empower my students to become active learners.
  • Develop skills as life-long learners, critical thinkers, and cooperative learners.
  • Challenge each student to reach his or her highest potential.
  • Encourage students to strive academically and behaviorally.
  • Be a conscious model of moral and ethical behavior.
  • Create a classroom with a positive and safe environment.
  • Respect each student as an individual.
  • Be fair and impartial when student behavior is in question.
  • Recognize self-discipline and good citizenship skills in my students and me.

8th Grade Exit Interviews-2

Every year eighth graders at Hutchinson Middle School participate in Exit Interviews.  I am currently asking the NLMUSD community to participate in this event.  This process allows them to experience a real-world interview with a professional within the community. Additionally, students create a portfolio of their academic year, which contain assignments from their core classes, and reflect on common core standards that were addressed in the assignment.  They also address their strengths and weaknesses and set goals for the future. The interviews will take place on May 17, 2019, at Hutchinson Middle School in the library from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Student portfolios are due May 2.

Language Arts 8: Volunteer Project Check-In

Assigned March 4 Due March 11: Volunteer Project Check-In
The Volunteer Project today was assigned in August of 2018. Students were to identify a place to volunteer, complete 20 volunteer hours and create a presentation about where they and what they learned. On Monday, March 11, 2019, I will be checking in to see how students are progressing toward completing their project. This check-in will be worth 20 points; 10 points for hours completed at least 10 hours and 10 points for a one paragraph summary of their volunteer experience thus far. The final volunteer project is due and will be worth 200 points and is due April 15, 2019. All documents can be found on the Hutchinson Website ( under my name)
